Bonneville Engine Development

Four Ring Performance is home to Bonneville Salt Flats land speed racing for the Audi I5 platform. These engines live in one of the harshest environments a high-horsepower turbo engine can see.

The dyno run shown here is on pump gasoline and moderate boost. Actual Bonneville passes use significantly higher boost and race fuel, with power levels in the 950+ wheel horsepower range.

During a single 225 mph long-course run, an FRP dyno-tuned and proof-tested engine may see the following within roughly one minute:

  • • 4500–6500 RPM in 3rd gear
  • • 4500–7200 RPM in 4th gear
  • • 4500–8200 RPM in 5th gear

Engine speed is never allowed to drop below 4500 RPM during the run for maximum performance and consistent cylinder filling and charge temperatures.

High boost, sustained high horsepower and minimal opportunities for cooling are more than most engines can tolerate. FRP has solved these problems and demonstrated the durability of our designs under some of the worst conditions a racing engine can experience.
